Planning a Whole Home Music System

A whole or multi-room music system is one of the most attractive home automation projects out there and also the most intimidating. The task itself appears difficult and complex. That said, the project itself is pretty straightforward so long as you create and follow a plan.

Determine How Many Rooms in the System

As part of your plan, you’ll want to determine which rooms should be included in your new multi-room sound system. The range of your music coverage depends on your preference, but it’s important to remember that the more rooms you have, the more speakers you’ll need. For example, if your multi-room sound system includes five different areas, you’ll need five pairs of speakers. This is especially important if the rooms are very far apart or are on different floors of the house.

Wired vs. Wireless Systems

Both options have their strengths. Wireless systems are flexible and very easy to install and arrange. On the other hand, wired audio systems boast better sound quality and control. It’s possible to go full wired or wireless, or even opt for a combination of the two, such as a completely wired system but with wireless control.

DIY or Professional Installation

Finally, you’ll want to determine if you’re going to do a full DIY installation or will work with an installer. You can do some of the parts of the project, such as placing the speakers and running the wires between rooms. That said, you’ll want to get in touch with experienced installers if you’re planning more complex installations and fittings, such as in-wall installation, keypad controls and even full automation.
